Stage 1: Disassembly

Remove the magazine. Ensure that the weapon is unloaded with a visual check into the empty chamber. Pull the trigger in a safe direction.

Pull down the disassembly lever (this is easier if you ease the slide back a little) and the slide will come off in a forward direction.

Put the grip frame aside. Remove the recoil spring and guide rod. Remove the barrel. The weapon is now fully disassembled for cleaning.

Stage 2: Cleaning the barrel & recoil unit

Clean the barrel (from the chamber end forward) with a wire brush if required and then a soft brush.

The brushes should be lightly oiled.

Clean the feed ramp on the barrel using a quality cleaning cloth designed for firearms use (i.e. will not leave fibers).

Oil the recoil spring and rod to reduce friction.

Stage 3: Cleaning the slide

Use a lightly oiled cloth to clean the slide ramp and moving parts.

Re-oil lightly and ensure all parts have free movement.

Stage 4: Cleaning the grip frame and mechanism

Use a small amount of oil and a cloth to remove powder residue and fouling especially around the trigger bar and slide rails. Ensure that the trigger bar is free to move and lubricated. Lightly oil the cleaned slide rails. Lightly oil the barrel exterior.

Stage 5: Re-assembly

Re-assemble the pistol in a reverse of the take-down process and oil the exterior of the slide. Perform a function check.

Remember: Oil should be used sparingly. If you can leave a finger print in the oil you have used the right amount. If you can see oil running you have used too much!
